Suzanne Vickery Shaver (76), a proud lifelong Mansfield resident, died unexpectedly on May 7th following an accident. She leaves behind her husband of 56 years, Dr. John C. Shaver, Jr., her daughters Kristin Shaver (Marianne Gries), Kate Bard (Eamonn Bard), and Dorothy Shaver; and grandsons Gage, EJ, and Harry Bard.
Suzanne was predeceased by her parents, Donald & Priscilla Vickery, her sister Sally, and her best friend Elaine ‘Auntie' Bedard. She was also the sister of Scott Vickery (Kim Vickery) and Marcia Aigler (Rob Aigler).
Suzanne earned a BA from Duquesne University, an M.Ed. from Northeastern University, and an MA from Rhode Island College. She was a licensed marriage and family therapist, and an exceptionally talented artist in a variety of mediums.
She loved floating on her noodle in the ocean off the beaches of Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod, spending time at Foxwoods, cruising around town in Buzzard (her first car, a 1948 Plymouth), playing with her grandkids, practicing her ukulele skills, and socializing with her pals.
Suzanne adored being a grandmother and did her best to spoil those boys rotten. She loved to share Sunday afternoons and her favorite vacation spots with them. We know she wanted more time with them, and they certainly wish they had more time with her. This is a shocking and devastating loss to everyone who loved her.
In addition to her immediate family, Suzanne leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was a force of nature with many superpowers, one of which was making lifelong friends in random situations.
Life can change in an instant, as it did for Suzanne and all of us, so enjoy every possible second, as she did and would want us to do. Live it up!
Arrangements will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to the Mansfield Historical Society.
