Obituary

With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Katherine Banach, who left this world at the age of 85, surrounded by the family she so deeply cherished on May 5, 2025. Born in Cieciory, Poland, Katherine immigrated to the United States at age 24 with her mother, husband, and her two young children, carrying with her hope for a better future. She was proud of her Polish roots, keeping traditions alive through her cooking and storytelling.
She began her life in America as a seamstress, known for her skilled hands and generous heart. Later, she became a beloved cook at Holy Cross College, where she was a favorite among students and staff alike. Nearly everyone who passed through the dining hall knew Katherine, not just for her delicious meals, but for the warmth of her smile and the motherly care she gave so freely.
Katherine's deep and unwavering faith was the cornerstone of her life. In Poland, she walked over an hour and a half each way to attend church every Sunday. A lifelong member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in Worcester, she drew strength from her relationship with God and served others with quiet devotion, humility, and love.
Above all, Katherine was devoted to her family. She helped raise many of her grandchildren, and always placed others needs before her own. In her later years, her greatest wish was simply to be with her family. In her final months, she made the decision to relocate to Florida so she could be surrounded by the family she cherished so much every day. Her great-grandchildren, Christopher and Zoey, brought her immeasurable happiness and peace. Their joy and love became her comfort in her final days.
Katherine is survived by her sons John, Albert, and Joseph; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her dear mother Marianna; her beloved husband, John; and her treasured daughter, Ursula.
She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, selflessness, and unconditional love. Her gentle spirit will live on in all who knew her.
