Barbara (Couch) Anderson, 84, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, May 5, 2025, at her daughter’s residence in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, May 10, 2025, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Gary Mimbs officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. A reception will follow at the Church of the Nazarene after the graveside service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Barbara was born September 7, 1940 to Georgia and Gordon Couch in Gordon County Georgia. Barbara was a beautiful, kind, generous woman, with a great sense of humor, earning “Most Humorous” as a Senior Superlative at Irwin County High School, from where she graduated in 1958. She and her husband, of 57 years, Edward Anderson, met at a dance and later married in 1960. They built a life together in West Palm Beach, FL, where they raised two daughters and established a highly successful business, Anderson’s Quality Meats in Lake Worth, FL. Barbara also enjoyed modeling in Palm Beach for many years.
Barbara loved the Lord and her family. Barbara and Edward made many trips to GA, when their girls were young, to visit with grandparents, great aunts, aunts, uncles and cousins which helped them foster the importance of family. Barbara taught Sunday School at Palm Springs Baptist Church, where she attended with her family for many years. Edward and Barbara relocated to Fitzgerald, GA upon retiring in the early 2000’s. At that time they transferred their church membership to Fitzgerald First Church of the Nazarene, where they attended as long as they were able. They enjoyed hosting their large extended family and many friends at their property, where they would serve wonderful meals, fish and laugh. Lots of fun family memories were made at their pond. Barbara was a loving wife and mother and truly enjoyed being “Nana” to Phillip, Gavin and Gage. She lived her life with dignity, grace and humor and will truly be missed.
She is survived by her sisters, Jackie Easter, Bobbie Biggers, Carolyn Swanson, Peggy Broom Ash and Judy Gibbs as well as her oldest daughter Jennifer Anderson, grandson Phillip Johnson (Morgan) and great grandson, Gage Johnson, and her youngest daughter, Maria Anderson Grizzell (Bryan) and grandson, Gavin Grizzell. Barbara was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, her eldest sister, Betty Easter, and her only brother, Charles Couch.
