Mrs. Josephine (Matarrelli) Potenza, a longtime resident of Medford and beloved wife of the late Anthony P. Potenza. She was 100 years old.
Born Giuseppina in Erchie, Italy on November 23, 1924, she was the beloved daughter of the late Raffaele and Annamaria (Sergi) Matarrelli. Josephine worked as a Photoprinter for many years; retiring at Dorian Color Lab in Arlington. She also worked as a Seamstress and making doll clothes for Vogue Dolls, Inc. She loved to sew and often made clothing for her friends and family as well as for herself. She got a deep satisfaction from gardening around her home, growing beautiful flowers and vegetables. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
Josephine is survived by her loving children; Vincent and his wife Patricia Potenza of Maynard, Linda and her husband Anthony Fontana of Billerica and Lisa and her husband Sean Going of Medford, sister-in-law; Ann Potenza of Carver, grandchildren; Laura, Lisa, Cynthia, Jenifer, Laurie, Matthew, Jessica, Zachary, Christina and Andrea, great-grandchildren; Justin, Ryan, Joshua, Liam, Anthony, Gabriella, Nicholas, Makeda and Eleanor, great-great-grandchildren; Victoria and Hallie and many nieces and nephews in the US and Italy. She was also the loving mother of the late Ann Novelline.
Her funeral will be held from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 9 AM followed by A Mass of Christian burial, celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant Street, Malden at 10 AM. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
