MARK ANTHONY BRITTON OBITUARY

In Loving Memory of Mark Anthony Britton
June 10, 1959 – May 3, 2025

Commodore — Mark Anthony Britton passed away peacefully on the morning of May 3rd, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. He was 65 years old.

Born in Ohio on June 10, 1959, Mark’s family returned to their roots just outside of Nicktown, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Northern Cambria High School. He lettered in football, ran track, and met the love of his life.

On July 7, 1984, he married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia Luella Goss at the Hillsdale Assembly of God Church, officiated by Pastor Lloyd Getch. Together, they built their home on Flemming Summit Road in Commodore, where they raised their family and have remained ever since. Mark was a member of PLUM Church and a constant presence in the community, always on the move, always stopping by to check in on family and friends, always finding something that needed doing.

Over the years, he built a long and varied career as a heavy equipment operator, coal strip-miner, and business owner. He worked with Glendale Year-Round, Al’s Tires, Wenturine Lumber, Kinter Mining, FNR Mining, and ran his own company, Britton Trucking. He later served as a foreman at P&N Coal Company. No matter the job, Mark showed up early, stayed late, and took pride in doing things right—always ready to lend a hand where it was needed most.

He was a man who rarely sat still—enjoying riding, hunting, or playing cards, he had a bold presence and a generous spirit that made everyone feel like they mattered.

He was a proud husband, father, uncle, and friend to many—and will be deeply missed by all who knew him, including his beloved Samoyed, Leo, whose ever-smiling face, playful spirit, and watchful presence never left his side.

He shared a life of nearly 40 years with his wife, Cindy, filled with love, hard work, and shared purpose. Their children, Markie Luella (Jay) and Trevor Anthony, were his greatest joy and stood beside him with love and strength through his final days. He was one of seven children born to Thomas and Verda Britton, both now gone—and remained close to his siblings throughout his life: Connie (Durb) Kammerer, Roger (Suzie) Britton, Barbara (Bud) Fulton, Elaine (Cary) Kline, Lisa (Pete) Baumgardner, and Brian (Rita) Britton. He was also embraced as family by Cindy’s late parents, Eugene and Theda Goss, and shared a deep bond with her sister, Eugenia (Charles) Frampton.

The house, the hill, and every place he frequented is already quieter without him—but his memory will remain vivid in every story told, every trail he rode, every job he did with his whole heart.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, Pa on Tuesday, May 6th from 4:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m. On Wednesday, May 7, 2025 a funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Plum Church, Commodore, PA with Pastor Raymond Hill officiating. Interment will be at Rowley Cemetery in Hillsdale, PA.

Mark’s family finds peace in knowing he is at rest and in the presence of the Lord, and they hold tight to the promise that they will see him again.
