Kathleen Grace Short passed away of metastatic breast cancer in Beverly, MA on January 30, 2025, at age 74. She is survived by her sister Marjorie Short; sister Nancy Ward; nephew Leland Ward, and niece Caitlin Ward. She was the daughter of Henry Short of Birmingham, AL and Grace Short of Wakefield, MA. She was the ex-wife of the late Joseph Attardo of Olivebridge, NY, and beloved long-time companion of the late John Price Windle of Boston, MA.
Kathleen earned an Associate of Arts in Retailing at Chamberlayne Junior College. She graduated summa cum laude from the UMass Boston School of Nursing, with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology. She earned a certificate in publishing from the Emerson College Division of Continuing Education. She was certified in Permaculture Design at the Ecovillage Training Program at Findhorn Foundation, Forres, Scotland UK. She did graduate studies in Holistic Science at the University of Plymouth & Schumacher College in Darlington, Devon, England UK.
Kathleen was accredited as a health/fitness instructor by the American College of Sports Medicine, and she was Fitness Director at the Greater Providence YMCA, Barrington, RI. Kathleen practiced yoga for over 15 years. She was a certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher, and taught Kripalu yoga for over five years. She was a wellness educator, yoga, and fitness instructor for corporate and healthcare clients in the Greater Boston area. She was also a certified Level 1 Integral Qigong Practice Leader.
Kathleen created “Stretch & Relax at Work,” an instructional booklet and CD-ROM. In addition, she wrote a chapter for the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association Well Aware Yoga Teacher Training Manual, and published an article for Perspective, Journal of the Association of Professional Directors of YMCA’s.
She was a guest speaker on transitioning to sustainability, and volunteered at bioengineering conferences in Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Colorado, and Oregon. She practiced Insight Meditation, and enjoyed painting, drawing, and mixed media. Kathleen lived in Paris for ten years, and traveled in Europe, Japan, and the United States, where she lived in several different states. Internment will be at Woodside Cemetery, Cohasset, May 16, at 10:30 AM.
