MEREDITH ---- John E. Humiston, 72, passed away peacefully in his home Sunday, April 27, 2025, after a period of declining health.
John was born in Plymouth, NH the son of John and Beverly (Severens) Humiston.
John attended local schools and graduated from Inter-lakes High School, where he was first chair percussionist. He enjoyed teaching the drums to younger students at the school.
John loved to work. He took great pride in working hard to provide for his wife and his girls. He went on to operate several businesses in Meredith over the years. He started with Humiston Towing, later opening Humiston Builders and during the last of his career, Humiston Excavation.
For nearly 40 years, the family has maintained a seasonal camp at Bayley’s Camping Resort in Scarborough, ME. John enjoyed a great friendship with the Bayley family. He found great joy in working with the Bayley’s over the years, both in the campground and at the Bayley property. Although some of his most loved days at camp were the fishing trips of all kinds with his dear friends. For many years he would not miss the campground horseshoe tournaments where he and his friend almost always took home the championship trophy. He also had an appreciation for antique vehicles; especially hot rods.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dolores (Pike) Humiston, his daughter Rhonda Humiston of Meredith and Tara Humiston of Nashua. He was known as Gaga to grandsons Drelynn Jackson of Nashua and O’Brian (Mari) and Aleian Murray of Meredith. He also leaves a sister Carol Olkonen and several nieces and nephews.
