Irene G. Hofmann of Tewksbury, formerly of Wilmington, Malden, and Easton, died Monday, March 3, 2025, at Heatherwood Gracious Retirement Living Center in Tewksbury, she was 87.
Irene was the beloved wife of the late Frank E. Hofmann, Jr. Devoted mother of Peter F. Hofmann of Haverhill, Jeffrey S. Hofmann of Haverhill, and Steven P. Hofmann of North Andover. Cherished grandmother to Jesse H. Hofmann of Salisbury. Loving sister of the late Robert E. Heath of Bozeman, MT. Born on April 21, 1937, in Easton, MA, she was the daughter of the late Paul F. Heath and Anna C. (Lind) Heath. Irene was raised and educated in Easton and was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School with the Class of 1955.
Irene met her beloved companion Frank shortly after graduation and they married in Easton, MA on August 17, 1957. Irene and Frank lived in marriage together, raising and caring for their family for almost 51 years until Frank’s passing in May 2008. Irene continued her loving ways with her children, grandson and other family members until her passing.
After high school, Irene worked as a teller at Shawmut Bank in Boston. She left after marriage to Frank to start a family. Once their children were older and going to school in Wilmington, she began working at Commercial Bank & Trust in Wilmington as a head teller and eventually became the Branch Manager of the North Reading office until retirement.
Irene’s Mezzo voice had been actively involved in the field of music most of her life, having had experience in both choral and orchestral work during her school years until her later years. She was a long-time voice student of Dr. James Houghton, of Boston University. She enjoyed performing many different styles of music and had presented programs with varied repertoire for clubs and groups throughout the state. A well-known soloist in the North Shore area, she had sung in many churches locally as well. Irene was a soloist for the Union Congregational Church in North Reading until joining and being a soloist for the Sanctuary Choir of the First Baptist Church of Malden. Irene also played the piano and organ.

The family declined to have visiting hours or a funeral service. Instead a private grave side service will be held in May at the Hofmann family plot at Tewksbury Cemetery – 172 East Street, Tewksbury, MA.
