Obituary

HOLLIS, ME - Susan “Sue” Kay Kallio, age 68, passed away on April 27, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.

Born on July 5, 1956, she was raised in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, graduating from Dollar Bay High School.

Sue married the love of her life, George, on May 18, 1974, and they were married for over 50 years.

Sue worked at Friendly’s corporation for 33 years.

She loved gardening, camping with her honey, fishing, traveling and was an amazing baker and cook. She loved spending time with her family and made sure everything was filled with the best things in life.

She was predeceased by her mother and father Erma and Carl Kemppainen, and had a special place in her heart for her Aunt Alice and Uncle Bill.

Sue is survived by her loving husband, George Kallio, her children Beth Kallio of Richmond and Laura Koelker and her husband Justin of Old Orchard Beach. Three grandchildren, Ryan Pelletier, Brayden Koelker and Elliot Koelker, and one great-granddaughter Acacia Pelletier.

She is survived by her brother Curt Kemppainen and his wife GeGe of Illinois, and sister Carla Banfield and her husband Bob of Michigan, and nieces and nephews.

Per Sue’s request private services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Northern Light Home Care & Hospice, 43 Whiting Hill Rd. Brewer, Me 04412 for their support and comfort for Sue in her final weeks.

Burial will be at Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery in Hollis at a later date.
