Obituary

EAST LONGMEADOW – Colette J. (Grandchamp) Ross, 94, of East Longmeadow, was Called Safely Home on Monday, April 28, 2025. She was born in Lowell on December 17, 1930, a beloved daughter of the late Louis and Jeannette (Letendre) Grandchamp. Colette graduated from parochial schools which laid the foundation for her Catholic faith. She learned to play the piano at age 7 and later studied organ under the direction of Revered Harold Fraser, O.M.I. A music festival program at Memorial Auditorium in Lowell marked the concert debut of 15 year old organist, Colette, in a rendition of Ravel's Bolero. She continued her piano studies at Faelten Pianoforte School in Boston and Andover Organ Institute in Methuen. During a weekly radio piano program on station WOTW in Nashua, NH, Colette met her husband Joseph Ross, the announcer for the program. They were married on September 4, 1950. They settled in East Longmeadow in 1959 where they raised their family. Colette was a retired organist for Saint Michael Parish in East Longmeadow. She attended Cambridge College where she received a degree in Business Administration. She was employed in the field of Alcoholism and Drug Services as Program Director for inpatient services at Providence Hospital and Carlson Detox until her retirement. Colette served for many years on the Board of Directors for the Mental Health Association. Besides her parents, Colette was predeceased by her loving husband Joe Ross, daughter Danielle Boudreau, sister Lorraine Elfenbein, and brother Dr. Gilbert Grandchamp. She leaves four daughters Francene Hoy of West Springfield, Jocelyn Buddington (Mark) of Reading, PA, Renee Vila and cat Audrey of East Longmeadow, and Claudine LaValley of Vernon, CT; 12 cherished grandchildren; 10 precious great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to express their gratitude to Gio Vila for his excellent care for both Colette and Joe. Family and friends are invited to attend a Committal Service on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Service, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
