Obituary

Anthony Orlando 'Tony' Cerretti, 72, a lifelong Lowell resident, passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer on Friday, April 25. He was the widower of the late Lucille (Durant) Cerretti, who passed away in July after sharing 24 years of marriage.

A son of the late Chami J. Cerretti and the late Jean S. (Hayes) Cerretti, he was born in Lowell on May 11, 1952. He was raised and educated in the former St. Peter’s Church Parish neighborhood of Lowell. He worked in the transportation field for most of his life. Most recently, he worked as a bus monitor but most of his career was spent with Tewksbury State Hospital where he worked for over 27 years.

Tony loved cars, especially antique cars and he always had a project car or 2 he was working on. He frequented car shows and car races and could be found at Hudson Speedway or Star Speedway. He owned and sold countless cars over the years, the automotive world was a true passion for Tony. Additionally, he loved spending time “Up North” in the White Mountains, more specifically Madison, NH and Ossipee, NH. He loved time spent with his family, in particular his beloved sisters.

Karaoke was another of Tony’s favorite pastimes, singing at The Rendezvous Lounge in Dracut many a Friday night over the years. Tony was happy go lucky and loved to have fun, he was also a devoted New England sports fan.

Tony often considered himself a ladies man and always enjoyed the company of a full figured woman when he wasn’t settled down aside his beloved Lucille for many years.

Besides his cherished wife and his parents, he was additionally predeceased by his brother, the late Donald Jones and his son, the late David Chartier.

He is survived his siblings, Maria Maille of Lowell, James D. Cerretti and his wife, Diane, of Tyngsboro, Joseph Cerretti and his wife, Patricia, of Hampton, NH, Elizabeth Cerretti of Lowell, and Peter Cerretti and his wife, Renee, of Lowell, many nieces, nephews and a large extended family with Lucille who he loved as his own.

All are welcome to attend his visitation and funeral. His visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA. On Friday, May 2, 2025 his funeral will begin at the funeral home at 10 am.. His Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 am at the Immaculate Conception Church, 144 East Merrimack, Street, Lowell, MA.
