Elizabeth “Betty” Bridget Garchinsky, aged 101, passed away peacefully on April 24th ,2025. Born in Boston on October 27th, 1923, Betty was the oldest child of the late Mary (Coombs) and Bernard Costigan. On October 15th 1949 Betty married Michael G. Garchinsky and together in 1964, they moved to Medford with their young family. After raising her 4 daughters, Betty began a decade-plus long career as a Bookkeeper, Payroll Administrator and Statistical Clerk for the Great A & P Tea Company, First National Stores Inc. and Data Printer Corp leveraging the Bookkeeping Certification she earned in January 1977 from Bunker Hill Community College. Outside of her professional life Betty was an avid cross-stitcher, enjoyed spending time with family, traveling with her sisters, and tending to her garden. Her beautiful roses bloom every year to mark the start of summer. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Michael G. Garchinsky, her beloved daughter Lisa Barnes and her dear siblings Bernard Costigan, Thomas Costigan, Anna Marie Morelli, Mary Costigan, Bridget Higgins, and Winifred Hegarty. Betty is survived by her treasured daughters, Ann Garchinsky of Malden, Mary Roth of Apex NC, Jane Fitzpatrick and her husband Kevin of Medford, as well as her son-in-law James Barnes of Haverhill. She is also survived by 9 loving grandchildren; Amy, Brenna, Shannon, Leah, Timothy, Joseph, Elizabeth, Michael and Jennifer and 9 cherished great-grandchildren; Seiji, Emma, Abigale, Raine, Barry, Eamon, Juliette, Evelyn and Annie. Relatives & friends are invited to attend her funeral service conducted in the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Wednesday April 30th at 11 AM. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10-11 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
