Obituary

EVAN H. GELO a Weymouth resident since 1949, died on Sunday, August 13th at the Heatherwood Nursing Home in Newport, Rhode Island. He was 89. Mr. Gelo was born in Lowell, Vermont and was raised and educated in Bradford, Vermont. He was a graduate of Bradford Academy in Vermont and achieved his BA degree in Accounting at Northeastern University. Mr. Gelo served in the Pacific Theatre with the United States Navy during World War II. He lived in Quincy following the war before relocating to Weymouth. He was an accountant by profession and was associated with United Carr Fastener of Cambridge for over 40 years, retiring in 1981 as chief accountant. For 10 years following his retirement, he had his own finish carpentry business. Mr. Gelo was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Quincy where he served as an Elder for many years.

Husband of the late June R. (Hayden) Gelo, he leaves his son, Mark A. Gelo of Concord, three daughters; Dawn G. Brandsema of Willow Street, PA, Noel G. Anderson of Limerick, PA and Laurel G. Rodman of Tiverton, RI and his brother, Aiken R. Gelo of Hingham. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Gelo was the youngest of 8 brothers and sisters.

A Graveside Service will be conducted on Thursday, Aug. 17th at 10 AM at the North Weymouth Cemetery, North Street Weymouth followed by a Memorial Service at the First Presbyterian Church, 270 Franklin St., Quincy at 11:30 AM.

Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Wednesday from 5-8 PM.
