Obituary

Gilford-Robert G. Stinson, 67, of Hoyt Road died Friday evening, August 11, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Laconia, NH on March 24, 1939 he was the son of the late Laurence and Vera (Grant) Stinson. Bob was raised and schooled in Laconia graduating from Laconia High School, Class of 1958, and had been a lifelong resident of the Lakes Region.

Bob was the founder of Robert G. Stinson Co., PC, CPA’s in Laconia, which he started in 1973. He was a graduate of LSU class of 1968 where he obtained his accounting degree. He was also a member of the Honor Society at LSU. He was a member of the select few who pass the CPA exam the first time, something he was very proud of. He was a member of the AICPA, and NHSCPA. Bob was a member of the Laconia-Gilford Lion’s Club where he was an active and dedicated Lion serving as past President and Treasurer. He was an integral part in the construction and the reality of the Lion’s Concession at the New Hampshire International Speedway. He was the first recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award given to those Lion’s who exemplify a commitment to humanitarian work from the Laconia-Gilford Lion's Club. He was also a U. S. Army veteran.

Among Bob’s many interests besides work and the Lion’s Club he enjoyed watching soccer, tennis, and football, especially following his beloved LSU Tigers.

Bob is predeceased by one brother, Richard Stinson.

Bob is survived by his wife of 45 years; Claire (Maheux) Stinson of Gilford, one son; Eric J. Stinson and Whitney Powers of West Alton, one daughter; Donna C. Harris and her husband Brian of Gilford, three brothers; Laurence Stinson, Jr. and his wife Jean of Winnisquam, David Stinson of Concord, and Michael Stinson of VT. His three grand-puppies Samson, Dawson, and Natasha, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday August 16th, 2006 at St. Joseph Church, 30 Church Street, Laconia at 12:00 pm; Rev. Gary J. Kosmowski pastor of the church celebrated the mass. Burial with Military Honors followed in the family lot at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Garfield Street, Laconia. Visiting hours were Tuesday August 15th, 2006 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Simoneau-Paquette Memorial Home, 139 Church Street, Laconia. Family and friends were invited to attend.
