New Bedford – Joao Carlos Ferreira, 74, of North Dartmouth died Thursday, August 10, 2006 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Cremilde (Mare) Ferreira.
Born in St. Michael, Azores on August 4, 1932, he was the son of the late Joseph Teves Ferreira and the late Maria (Anjos) Ferreira. Mr. Ferreira was employed by Berkshire Hathaway until his retirement, after which he enjoyed helping his son at his restaurant, Village Pizza in Westport. He had a gentle sweet nature and a deep love for life. He was an avid gardener who took great pride in his flower gardens, especially his sunflowers. He also had a great religious faith and attended Mass at St. Julie’s daily. One of his many loves was traveling with his grandchildren on various cruises and trips.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by one son: Antonio P. Ferreira and his wife Kathy (DeMello) of North Dartmouth; 2 grandchildren, who were the loves of his life and both of whom cared for him throughout his illness, Nicholas A. Ferreira and Kristen M. Ferreira of North Dartmouth; 2 brothers: Urvano Ferreira of St. Michael, Azores and Manuel Ferreira of Sao Paulo, Brazil; and also several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Maria Celia Teves Botelho and Maria Idaliana Teves Mare.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, August 14, 2006 from the Potter Funeral Home at 8:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Sunday 5 - 8 P.M.
Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery.
