Kathleen C. “Kitsy” Boyd
...emigrated from Ireland, active at St. William’s Parish ; 85
TEWKSBURY - Kathleen C. “Kitsy” (Curran) Boyd, age 85, died Friday morning, August 11, at
Westford House, after a long period of declining health. She was the wife of Roland F. Boyd,
who died in November, 1980.
She was born in Bean Bane, Waterville County, Ireland, a daughter of the late Michael and Bridget
(Sullivan) Curran. She emigrated to the United States at the age of 18, and settled in Belmont.
She moved to Tewksbury in 1954 to raise her family. She lived between and Tewksbury and
Ocean Point, Maine, most of her adult life.
Mrs. Boyd was fondly recalled by friends for her bright red hair, sparkling eyes, Irish brogue,
cheerful spirit, and devotion to her church.
She was a member of St. William’s parish in Tewksbury, and a member of the B.V.M. Women’s
Sodality at St. William’s.
In her later years she was frequent visitor to the Tewksbury Senior Drop -In Center, the
Tewksbury Golden Age, the Quilting Guild in Tewksbury, and the Billerica Irish-American Club.
She is survived by six children, James B. Boyd and his wife Judith (Marchand) of Amherst, NH,
Thomas J. Boyd of Milledgeville,GA, R. Garry Boyd and his wife Marlies (Van DerElzen) of
Ocean Point, ME, Donna Boyd-Acquaviva of Dunstable, Kathleen A. Boyd of Belchertown, MA,
and Stephen F. Boyd of Reddington Beach, FL; eight grandchildren, Brendan, Dana, Caitlin,
Patricia, Daniel, and Jason Boyd, Alana and Michael Acquaviva; a sister, Eileen “Nell” Kelley of
Cork City, Ireland.
She was also sister of the late John, Michael, and Bridget Curran, and Mary Ford.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 16, St. William’s Church,
Tewksbury. Memorials to the Ocean Point Colony Trust Playground Fund, P.O. Box
642, East Boothbay, ME 04544, will be gratefully appreciated.
