Obituary


Sonja Pentall-Halligan, of 301 Buddington Rd., Groton died Thursday at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. She was the loving wife of Charles V. Halligan whom she married in Westerly on June 05, 2004.

Sonja was born August 26, 1938 in Chicago IL, the daughter of the late Walter and Kathleen (Greenbush) Johnson. She attended public schools in Chicago and graduated the class of 1956. Her first job was as a page for the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank where her father was employed as an auditor. Later in her life, as a single mother of three young children, she worked as a waitress, sometimes working two or three jobs concurrently. Her waitress career lasted over forty years servicing numerous local area restaurants.

Some of her passions were crocheting, knitting, needlepoint and creating handmade crafts for her grandchildren. Her greatest joy came from raising her children which rewarded her with six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She is survived by three children, Scott Pentell of Nokomis, FL, Brian and wife Isabel Pentell of Groton and Deanna Cammarata of Groton; grandchildren Jason Pentell of Plainfield, CT, Cassandra Cammarata of Waterford, Chase Holmes of Norwich, Caitlyn Pentell of Venice Beach, FL, Olivia and Saffron Pentell of Groton and great grandchildren Gaige and Tori Pentell of Plainfield.

Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Tuesday from 6-7pm. A graveside service will be conducted at Lambtown Cemetery, Lambtown Road, Ledyard on Wednesday at 11am. (Those attending should meet directly at the cemetery at 10:45am).
