LOWELL—John R. Myers, 72 years old, a longtime resident of Lowell, died early Thursday morning, August 10th, at his home in Lowell. He was the husband of the late Leona A. (Fortin) Myers, who died in 1998.
He was born in Woburn, on August 15, 1933, a son of the late Francis J. and Christina M. (Smith) Myers, and was a graduate of the Lowell School System.
Mr. Myers served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, in Military Intelligence. Upon his discharge, he began his employment with the Lowell Police Department. He was appointed a reserve patrolman on April 24, 1960 and became a permanent officer on March 25, 1962. While he was employed he received a degree in Criminal Justice from Northern Essex Community College. He worked for many years in the Belvidere section of Lowell and retired on July 16, 1993.
Surviving him are two sons and daughters-in-law: Scott J. and Kathleen Myers, of Lowell; and Johnathan M. and Diane Myers, of Lee’s Summit, MO; two grandchildren: Bethany Michelle Sisson, and Jackson Mark Myers; a sister: Alice C. Olone, of California; also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was the brother of the late Francis J. Myers, Josephine Reynolds, and Elinor M. Carnevale.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 PM on Sunday August 13th at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). His Funeral Mass to be offered Monday, August 14th, at 9 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell.
