Obituary

Swampscott: Joseph A. Banville age 80 of Swampscott, died Tuesday, August 8, 2006, at the NSMC / Union Hospital in Lynn following a long illness. He was the husband of Christine J. (Collings) Banville and was also the husband of the late Patricia (Donovan) Banville.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Emile O. and Isabella (koloski) Banville. He received his B.S. in industrial engineering at Northeastern University, his Masters degree in Business Administration from Boston University as well as courses at the schools of government at Harvard, Princeton and Dartmouth.
He first worked for Liberty Mutual as a data processing systems analyst, followed by Polaroid in Cambridge and later still for Price Waterhouse in Boston. A registered engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, he was Director of Policies, Planning & Procedures for the state. Mr. Banville was former president of NASIS (National Assoc. of State Information Systems). He retired from the Commonwealth in 1982. A veteran of WW II and Korea he served with the Navy and was a member of the DAV. Joe was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott, where he served as Eucharistic Minister.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 daughters: Maureen Dionne of Danvers, JoAnn Banville of California, Mary Galvin of N. Andover, 6 grandchildren, a niece: Sheila Risoldi and her husband Thomas, and several cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Friday, August 11, 2006, at 10:30 am from the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem, followed by his funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, 174 Humphrey St. Swampscott at 11 am. Visiting hours will precede his funeral from 9 am to 10:30 am. Burial will be in Swampscott Cemetery.
