Obituary

Joshua M. Hennigar, 93, of Chester Road, Derry, NH died Wednesday August 28, 2002 at the Birchwood Nursing Home, Derry following a lengthy illness. He was born in Upper Kennetcook, Nova Scotia, Canada on November 29, 1908, a son of the late Addison and Mary (Linden) Hennigar. He was a brother to six brothers and five sisters. Mr. Hennigar lived in Nutfield Heights in Derry for several years and in Saugus, MA for many years prior to moving to New Hampshire. Joshua Hennigar and Margaret McDougal were married in the Chapel of the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, MA on April 2, 1930. They recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. Joshua worked as a master carpenter, floor layer, and homebuilder for many years. During World War II, he worked in the Boston Navy Yard as a ship builder. He was very active in the Episcopal Church while living in Saugus, MA and after moving to New Hampshire, became very active in the First Baptist Church of Salem, NH. He was a member and past master and installing officer of the Grange for many years. Joshua and his wife enjoyed square dancing and trailer camping.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Margaret (McDougal) Hennigar, Derry, three sons, Rev. Richard Hennigar, Holden, MA, Ronald Hennigar, North Sebago, ME, Edmund Hennigar, Benicia, CA, two daughters, Alice Schultz, Sebring, FL, The Rev. Edna Love, Prattville, AL, 21 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Helen Gilpin, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, Bertha Soley, San Jose, CA, one brother, Maurice Hennigar, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

There will be no calling hours. Following cremation a memorial service will be held on Wednesday September 4th at 10:00am at the First Baptist Church, 101 School St., Salem, NH. Private burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in E. Derry. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 101 School Street, Salem, NH 03079. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry is handling the arrangements.
