Frank J. Caruso, Jr. of Lynnfield, Clerk Magistrate of the Haverhill District Court died Tuesday, after a brief illness, at the age of 70 at his home.
The son of the late Frank J. Caruso Sr. and Rose (DiChiara) Caruso, Mr. Caruso was a native of Medford. He graduated from St. Clement’s School in Medford/Somerville. Mr. Caruso then completed a year of prep school at Kimball Union Academy in Meridan, New Hampshire.
Mr. Caruso attended college, first at the University of Vermont, majoring in political science. He also played football and ran track. Mr. Caruso completed his college studies, earning a Masters Degree in education, at Suffolk University. After graduation, Mr. Caruso taught for several years in the Medford school system.
In the early 1970’s, Mr. Caruso changed careers, beginning 35 years of service for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Mr. Caruso initially served as a probation officer at the Gloucester District Court. In December 1973, Mr. Caruso was promoted to First Assistant Clerk Magistrate at the Gloucester District Court.
Mr. Caruso was appointed as Clerk Magistrate of the Haverhill District Court in December 1979. Mr. Caruso served as Clerk Magistrate until his death. Mr. Caruso was well respected by all participants in the judicial system, from judges to court and police personnel, from attorneys to parties.
In addition to the above, Mr. Caruso worked for over 40 years as a manager/owner at the Caruso Diplomat, a Saugus function hall owned and operated by his family. Through his work at the Caruso Diplomat, Mr. Caruso made and developed many longtime friendships.
Mr. Caruso cherished spending time with his family and his close friends. He loved summer vacations at New Hampshire and Maine lakes and Gloucester beaches, and winter vacations in Ft. Lauderdale. He enjoyed annual fall trips to college football games at places such as Notre Dame, Michigan, Wisconsin, LSU and South Carolina. He loved the Bruins and Whalers of the early and mid 1970’s. and the Beanpot.
Mr. Caruso was a longtime member of the Colonial Health Club in Lynnfield.
Beloved husband of Joanne (Carapezza) Caruso. Devoted father of Frank J. Caruso, III and his wife Diane of Lynnfield; John L. Caruso and his wife Kelly of Fairfield, Connecticut; Andrea R. Casey and her husband Peter of Medford. Loving grandfather of Jennifer, Jessica, Michael, Julianna, Mia and Emma.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, Friday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Fellsway West, Medford at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Visiting Hours Thursday from 3pm to 8pm.
Services will conclude with burial at the Forest Hill Cemetery, Forest Hill Avenue in Lynnfield.
