Anthony A. Polcari, died at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford, on Wednesday, after a brief illness. The husband of the late Mary (Manganiello) he was Eighty-seven years old.
Born and educated in Boston he was the son of the late Assunta (D´Alelio) and John B. Polcari. Tony served in the Army during World War II, seeing service in the European and African Middle Eastern Theater.
After his return, he joined the family grocery business, then operated by his father. Soon after that, his family acquired the Pizzaria Regina Restaurant in the North End of Boston, which he operated untill his retirement. Now a landmark in the City of Boston, with Tony´s leadership the Pizzaria has grown to many locations through out New England.
Tony was also instrumental in developing Polcari´s Restaurants of greater Boston.Although a Medford resident for fifty-six years, he has been committed to civic and community affairs of the North End. He was a member of the North End VFW Post, Ausonia Coucil of the Knights of Columbus, The St. Anthony Society of the North End, a benefactor to the Don Orione Home of East Boston, a life member of the Medford Lodge of Elks, and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of New England.
He is survived by four daughters, Susanne D´Amico and her husband Joe of Tewksbury, Marie LoCicero and her husband Robert, Francine Castro and her husband Terry, Ann Tecce and her husband Joe all of Medford. Nine grandchildren, Lisa Darrigo, Maria Sampson, Joseph D´Amico, Michelle Gambale, Vincent, Jennifer and Anthony Castro, Natale and Marielena Tecce. Also six loving great grandchildren.
Three sisters Ella DiMatteo and Louise Bevilaqua of Medford, Josephine Polcari of Chelsea and a brother John Polcari of Dover. He is predeceased by one brother Charles Polcari.
His funeral will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, on Saturday, August 31, at 8 a.m. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Jospeh Church, 118 High St. Medford at 9. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
Visiting hours will be at the Dello Russo Funeral Home on Friday from 3 thru 8.
