Spillane--Of South Easton, formerly of Brockton, August 7, 2006, Myrtle B. (Smart) Spillane, 85 years. Wife of the late Capt. Arthur E. Spillane (ret. BPD). Mother of Susan F. Murphy of Easton, Janice M. Spillane of E. Dennis, Ellen J. Crowley and her husband Patrick of N. Easton and Art T. Spillane of S. Easton. Grandmother of Daniel and Matthew Murphy, Sean and Brendan Crowley. Also survived by three great granddaughters. Sister of Earl Smart of S. Yarmouth.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Saturday at 10 a.m. Funeral Mass in St. Ann Church, W. Bridgewater at 11 a.m. Burial at a later date in Pine Hill Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday, 5-8 p,m. Donations in memory of Myrtle may be made to the New England Sinai Adult Day Care Center, 15 York St., Stoughton, MA 02072.

Obituary

Myrtle B. Spillane died Monday evening at the Braemoor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a lengthy illness. She was the widow of retired Brockton Police Captain Arthur E. Spillane.
Born in Chicopee, a daughter of the late Earl P. and Margaret (Allen) Smart, Mrs. Spillane was raised in East Bridgewater and graduated from Brockton High School with the Class of 1938.
She had been a resident of Easton for the past 20 years after living in Brockton for many years.
Mrs. Spillane retired from Park Medical Associates after working many years as a billing clerk. She had also been a teacher’s aide at the Hancock Elementary School and a waitress at Leonard’s Restaurant. She was a former member of the Brockton Police Wives Association and member of St. Margaret Church.
In her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and supporting their many activities.
She is survived by her three daughters, Janice M. Spillane of East Dennis, Susan F. Murphy and Ellen J. Crowley and her husband, Patrick, of Easton; a son, Art T. Spillane of Easton; four grandchildren, Daniel and Matthew Murphy, Sean and Brendan Crowley, and three great granddaughters. She also leaves a brother, Earl Smart of S. Yarmouth, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Spillane was the sister of the late Francis, George, Richard, Robert and Walter Smart and Dorothea Leonard.
