Obituary
Michael R. Lalli, a well known and accomplished musician for over 60 years in the Brockton area, died on Tuesday at the age of 92. Born in Brockton to Pardo and Philomena (Petti) Lalli, he was married to the late Evelyn (Ladd) who died in 2003. They were high school sweethearts from their freshman year and graduated from BHS Class of 1932.
Mike provided music and entertained thousands of people during his long career in music on the South Shore. He started at age 15 as a gifted guitar and banjo player. He added the saxophone, clarinet and flute to his repertoire and was most often the entertainer and musician for weddings and celebrations, especially within the Italian community. He was especially proud of the fact that he had played at the weddings of three generations of the several families in the city. Mike made people happy with his incredible skills as a musician. He also accepted everyone he knew with his loving and tolerant nature.
He also taught music in the Lalli Music Studio in the Richmond Building in downtown Brockton. Students would arrive at his studio breathless after climbing the mountain of marble stairs, but evidently they felt it was worth the effort in order to study with him.
An accomplished artist with water colors and oils, he studied at the Vesper School of Art in Boston. He was a member of the Sons of Italy, Brockton Federation of Musicians, and the Boston Federation of Musicians.
Mike leaves his daughter, Michele (Frances) Genua of Marshfield; his son, Bruce A. Lalli of Brockton; grandchildren Monique Genua of Medford; Dante Genua of North Carolina; Nicole Lalli Genua of California; Pia Arnone Lalli of Brockton; and Miken Lalli of Stoughton. He also leaves three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mike was the brother of the late Frank A. Lalli who died in 2005.
