In West Roxbury, MA, age 60 years passed away Saturday, August 5, 2006 at the Beth Israel/Deaconess Hospital in Boston. Beloved husband of his wife of 25 years, Heidi (Larson) Reed. Loving son survived by his mother and stepfather Marion and Melvin Ellis of Aurora, Illinois, his uncle William Reed of Elgin, Illinois, great nephew Rocky Glover of Piano, Illinois, and many cousins and friends. He was preceeded in death by his father Raymond Reed, sisters Judy Glover and Bette Bank,also survived by dear brother and sister in law James and Dagna Pantuliano of New Hyde Park, New York and father and mother in law John and Magda Larson of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and nephew Tom Glover. Ray was a graduate of West Aurora High School and Aurora University, in Illinois. He earned a masters degree in History and a master's degree In Counseling the Deaf from Northern Illinois University, and his doctorate in Special Education from the University of New Orleans. Ray was a dedicated advocate, counselor, teacher, and admlnstrator known for his commitment to assisting others in achieving communication access and awareness, as well as for his spirit and humor during his 25 year career in the field of working with people who are deaf and hard of hearing. He entered the profession as a counselor with the Regional Education Ceneter for the Deaf, at Delgado College, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and a teacher and counselor at the Louisiana School for the Deaf. When he and his wife relocated to Massachusetts in 1988, he was a counselor with the Hayden School, and then became the Deaf Services Program Director with the Regional Educational Assessment and Diagnostics Services collaborative in Middleborough, and until his retirement in 2002 he was an information specialist with the Communication Access Training and Technology Services department of the Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Ray was a pioneer recipient of kidney transplant surgery in Colorado in 1963 when he received a kidney from his mother which lasted for 40 years before failing. Memorial services for Ray will be held at 10. a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2006 at Advent Christian Church, 905 N. Edgelawn Ave., Aurora, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Aurora University, Hearing Loss Association of America/Greater Boston Self Help for the Hard of Hearing, MA State Association of the Deaf, DEAF Inc., New England Homes for the Deaf,National Fraternal Society of the Deaf and to the National Kidney Foundation for its kidney transplant program.
