James R. Chandler Sr.

....IBEW Local 1103; veteran of 2 wars; 72

LOWELL - James Richard Chandler sr., age 72, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 27, after a 2 monthbattle with cancer. he was the husband of Patricia C. (Moore) Chandler, with who he would havecelebrated a 49th wedding anniversary on August 29th.

He was born in Lowell, Sept. 24, 1929, one of ten sons of the late Paul I. and Catherine (Santry)Chandler, and was a lifelong resident of Lowell.

He enlisted in the US Army during WWII, and served with the Occupation Forces in Germanyafter the close of the war. He reenlisted inthe the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and servedaboard the USS Salerno Bay, and the USS Wasp.

He worked as a Union Electrician in Boston’s Local 1103 Int’l Brotherhood of Electric Workers.He later served as an electrician for the Middlesex Hospital in Waltham, where he was a memberof A.F.S.C.M.E. Union.

He was a member of the Lowell Elks Lodge 87 for more than 39 years. In his earlier years, hewas active as a Bingo worker for the Elks, and during the 1970's he served as a Troop 6 BoyScouts of America commissioner.

Mr. Chandler was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.He had been a faithful fan and seasons ticket holder for the Lowell Spinner’s baseball club sincetheir founding.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Kevin M, Chandler of No.Reading, James R. Jr., and his wife Mia (Marcos) Chandler of Lowell, John R. Chandler ofLowell, two brothers and eight sisters-in-law, William and his wife LuAnn Chandler of VA,Warren and his wife Carol Chandler of FL, Dorothy Chandler of Lowell, Winifred Chandler ofFL, Harriette Chandler of Lowell, Elaine Chandler of Lowell, Sybil Chandler of Cape Cod, andLois Chandler of FL, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also father of the late Kathryn Marie Chandler, and brother of the late Thomas, Paul, Carl,Albert, G. Harvey, Raymond and Joseph Chandler.

His Funeral Mass was held Saturday Aug. 31, in the Immaculate Conception Church, Lowell. Interment was in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
