Marie (Fermino) Gomes-Johnson, 91, of New Bedford died August 5, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
She was the wife of Otis "Kelly" Johnson, Sr.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Valentino and Dominga (Fortes) Fermino, she lived in Newport, RI and New Bedford most of her life.
Mrs. Johnson was formerly employed by the Newport Hospital many years ago.
Survivors include her husband; 5 sons, Craig Johnson of Cape Coral, FL, Otis Johnson, Jr., Terrance Johnson, Bradley Gomes and Stuart Gomes, all of New Bedford; 4 daughters, Karleen Johnson, Alicia "Lisa" Johnson-Bundy and Janice Gomes all of New Bedford and Ginger Gomes of South Carolina; a brother, Alfred Fermino of Orlando, FL; 3 sisters, Ruth Holland of Rhode Island, Lillian Stallings of New Bedford and Evangeline Blake of Falmouth; her dear friend, Charlotte Williams of New Bedford; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews including Betty Ann Pina Rogers.
She was the mother of the late Sandra Gomes and the sister of the late Peter Fermino, Anne Rogers, Valentino Fermino, Henry Fermino, Joseph Fermino and James Fermino.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 10th at 10 AM in the International Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting Hours Wednesday, August 9th 4-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford.
