Stella M. MacDonald (DiGiovanni), 102, of Randolph, formerly of West Roxbury, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in hospice care from old age on November 26, 2024.
Stella is survived by her loving daughter and caretaker, Janice, and her husband William Lagasse of Randolph; her grandson Derek whom she adored and his wife Christine of Brookfield, CT; her precious great grandchildren Adelaide “Addie” and Victoria (Vicky) Lagasse; and her son Bob’s widow Mary MacDonald of Quincy. A true blessing to us all, especially Janice, by sharing her strength and support with all the family through the years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William “Billy” MacDonald, a WWII US Navy Veteran she married in 1942, and her son the late Robert MacDonald, an US AirForce Veteran of Quincy.
A homemaker and woman of deep faith, Stella was born in a small mining town in Pennsylvania, the ninth of ten children born to the late Esther and Peter DiGiovanni who immigrated from Italy in 1905. The family moved to Boston when Peter became ill from working in the coal mines.
Loving sister of the late Angeline DeMatteo, Mary Bacille, Carmela Falcione, Rose Falcione, Lena DiGiovanni, Violet "Marie" Sisler of Ohio, Susan F. “Susie” Puglisi of Wakefield, Gino DiGiovanni, and William DeJohn; and many dear nieces, nephews, and friends.
As we mourn her loss, let us smile and celebrate her long-blessed life.
The burial will be private at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, with her husband of 64 years and alongside her son.
In Stella’s memory, perform an act of kindness and donate to a charity near and dear to your heart.
