Irma Elizabeth Guske, 87, of Tifton died Thursday, August 3, 2006, at Maple Court. Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, August 7, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 6, 2006, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The family will be at the home of Jenny Thomas Scarborough, 2627 Diana Circle in Tifton.
Ms. Guske was born on July 3, 1919 in Columbiaville, Michigan and was the daughter of Ben Eliphalet Burgess and Sarah Lindley Burgess, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Guske; one brother, Arthur Rodney Burgess; and two sisters, Wanda Traver and Ruth Falkenhagen. She was a former school teacher and secretary/treasurer of G & L Steel, now known as Elixir Industries in Fitzgerald. She had been a member of the Literacy Volunteers of America since February 1987 and had lived in Tifton since 1986. She was of the Episcopal faith.
Ms. Guske is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law: Kent A. and Jolane Guske of Sylvester, Kim A. and Suzanne Guske of Waleska, John C. and Dottie Guske of Senoia and James R. and Linda Guske of Longs, South Carolina; one daughter, Kay Guske of Canton and Tifton; one brother, Frank Arnold Burgess of Tifton; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Tiftarea or Literacy Volunteers of America.
