Eugene C. “Cleo” Hughes, age 85, passed away Monday, July 31, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - N MS in Oxford, MS. He served in the Army Air Corp. during WWII. He was a Teacher, Coach and a Principle in the Shelby County and the Memphis School System for 32 years. He received his B. S. from the University of Southern Mississippi and a M Ed. from the University of Mississippi. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Water Valley, MS.
The visitation will be held at Seven Oaks Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, August 2, 2006, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in Water Valley at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2006 with Dr. Randy Bain officiating. The committal will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley, MS.
He is survived by his wife Bessie Mae Mize Hughes of Water Valley, MS; a daughter, Terry Hughes McQueen of Houston, TX; a brother, Henry Theo Hughes of Baton Rouge, LA; and three Grandsons, Cam, Matt and Tyler McQueen.
Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his parents, Frank L. & Willie Rounsaville Hughes; a sister, Laverne Hughes Hood; and four brothers, Bobby Gene Hughes, Robert Lenden Hughes, Edward Franklin Hughes, and James Leon Hughes.
