Obituary

Abraham Al Rich, a resident of Revere died on July 30, 2006 at the Whidden Hospital in Everett after a brief illness. He was 96 years old.

Born in Boston, son of the late Samuel and Bertha (Markowitz) Rich, Mr. Rich was raised and educated in Revere, graduating from Revere High School. He was employed for many years as a prescription clerk at the Shattuck Drug Store in Everett. During World War II, Mr. Rich served as a pharmacy technician in the United States Army. He saw battle in Normandy, France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and the Europe Air Offensive and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, and the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged from military service on October 7, 1945 at Ft. Devens, MA. After returning from military service Mr. Rich opened his own health and beauty supply company in the Everett area. For many years, Mr. Rich devoted his time to caring for his disabled son, the late Steven Rich who was the former Commissioner of Handicap Affairs for the City of Revere. In addition, he also cared for his late wife Hannah (Kipnes) during her illness. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans Price Strauss Post of Revere, and a 59 year member of the Consolidated Lodge of Masons in Boston.

Mr. Rich is survived by his devoted brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Max and Lillian Forman with whom he made his residence in Revere and his nephew and niece, Arnold and Mickey Rich of FL. He was the brother of the late Frances Kaplan, Edward, Harry, Nathan, and Morris Rich.

Graveside services will be held in the Tifereth Israel of Revere Cemetery, 232 Fuller St. Everett on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at 11:00 AM. Rabbi Frank Waldorf will officiate. Memorial observance will be held at his late residence through Wednesday evening. Those wishing to remember Mr. Rich through memorial donations may do so to a charity of one’s own choosing.
