Obituary

Fall River – Ruth L. Howland, 87, of Westport died Friday at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief Illness.

Born in Westport, daughter of the late George H. and Annie S. (Brightman) Howland, she was a lifelong resident of Westport. A graduate of Westport High School Class of 1936, she was a telephone operator until her retirement. Miss Howland was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Westport Friends Meeting, serving on many Quaker committees, past president of the Westport Woman’s Club, past master of Westport Grange P of H #181, master of Old Colony South Pomona Grange #29, Massachusetts State Grange, National Grange, affiliate member and past master of Dartmouth Grange #162 and Birdwatchers.

She is survived by 3 cousins: Phyllis Brightman of Pawtucket, RI, Hilda Rogers of Ventura, CA and Lois H. Simon of Wrentham, MA.

She was the sister of the late George R. Howland.

Services to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at the Potter Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M.

Calling hours Tuesday 6 – 8 P.M. with a Westport Grange P of H #181 service at 7:00 P.M.

Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.

A Memorial Service will be held on October 7, 2006 at the Westport Friends Meeting, Main Rd., Westport at 2:00 P.M.
