SALEM - Maurice S. Bliss, 90, of Beverly, formerly of Salem, husband of the late Eva (Tremblay) Bliss, died Thursday, July 27, 2006 in the Hunt Nursing & Retirement Home, Danvers following a short illness.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Stanley E. Bliss and Jennie R. (Druce) (Bliss) Tansey. His family came to the US when he was an infant, and he had been a resident of Salem until moving to Beverly in 1996.
An Army veteran of WWII, Mr. Bliss was attached to the 740th Field Artillery Battalion and served in campaigns in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.
Prior to his retirement in the late 1970's, Mr. Bliss was employed for many years as a tow truck driver for Dooling’s Garage in Beverly. After his retirement, he was the manager of the Peabody Car Wash.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth & Valerie Bliss of Peabody, one daughter & son-in-law, Beverly and Robert Hayhurst of Beverly and with whom he resided, six grandchildren, David, Derek, Bonnie, Darlene, Brian and Jamie, several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held Monday, July 31, 2006 at 11:30 Am in the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. A visitation will be held from10 to 11:30 AM, prior to the service. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
