WORCESTER___Peter J. Platukis, 90, of 101 Chadwick St., died Thursday July 27 in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center. His wife, Emily (Barauskas) Platukis died in 1975.
He leaves two sons, Peter G. Platukis and his wife Carole of Holden and Robert L. Platukis of Auburn; a brother, Leon Platukis of Worcester; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother and a sister. He was born in Worcester, a son of Leon and Mary (Rapeikiute) Platukis and lived here all his life.
Mr. Platukis was a steel wire drawer for American Steel & Wire Co. and worked there 33 years before retiring. He was a graduate of St. Casimir School. He was a member of Our Lady of Vilna Church and was a former member of St. Casimir Church.
In the 1930’s and 1940’s Peter was a well known semi professional baseball player. He was a member of the Cooney’s Café team from Charlton that won the Massachusetts State fast pitch softball championship in 1943. He was an avid golfer and bowler. Peter was a little league umpire for many years and enjoyed watching young players develop their skills.
The funeral will be held on Monday July 31 with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
