Obituary

Lee Roy Woody, 92, of Savannah passed away Friday, June 21, 2002, at Tara Nursing Home in Thunderbolt, His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2002, at Omega Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Don Perry and the Rev. Steve Moon officiating. Mr. Woody was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Mr. Woody's son and grandsons served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Omega Baptist Church and the following long-time friends, Joe Day, Jack Doss, James Dunn, Roger Dunn, Willard Dunn, the Rev. Paul Sumner, Steven Sumner, Rudolph Sumner, Charles Sumner, Royston Dodson, Ralph Veazey, Bobby Hinson, the Rev. Jimmie Hinson, Harvey Powell, Robert Sumner, Ray Vickers, Ray Hunt Sr., Robert Ponder, Gene Oliver, E. L. Wood and Arthur Tucker.

Born May 5, 1910, in the Hurst Community in Fannin County, Mr. Woody was the son of the late Willis Gaines Woody and Mary Suzanna Reynolds Woody. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alma Jones Woody. He lived most of his life in Omega, where he was a farmer in the Saint Paul Community. For 66 years, he was an active member of Omega Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for over 50 years.

Mr. Woody is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Manson W. and Gwendolyn Woody of Allendale, South Carolin; one daughter, Marilyn Bass of Savannah; one sister, Mary Woody Peterson of Pine Mountain; his grandchildren and their spouses, John Woody of Tyrone, Mary and Chris Griner, Lewis and Alissa Woody and Jones Woody, all of Valdosta, Dondra Bass of Atlanta, Jimbo and Lindsey Bass of Birmingham, Alabama and Lorrie Bass of Columbia, South Carolina; one great-grandson, Bryan Woody of Valdosta; and a number of nieces and nephews.
