John Jacob Watson, 88, of Tifton passed away Monday, July 1, 2002, at his residence. His funeral service was held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2002, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Terrell Roberts officiating. Mr. Watson was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Randy Jones, Robert Kennedy, Elmer Sumner, Phil Cavenaugh, Jorden Flanders and Marty Goff served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were A. G. Griffin, Doyle Wiggins, Jack Stone and Greg Branch.
Born September 15, 1913, in Tift County, Mr. Watson was the son of the late Perry Hilton Watson and Mollie Elizabeth Lindsey Watson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jerry Cavenaugh Watson. Before retiring, he worked for Greyhound Racing; and he was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Watson is survived by his best friend and long-term caregiver, Marjorie Harper; one daughter, Roberts Watson Coleman of Roswell; two grandchildren, Teresa Coleman Maxwell and Tamie Coleman Booth; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
