Annie Ola Turner Walea, 94, of Tifton, formerly of Ty Ty, passed away Monday, December 30, 2002, at Beverly Health Care in Tifton. Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2003, at Ty Ty First Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Jones officiating. Mrs. Walea was laid to rest at Ty Ty First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Walea's grandsons and great-grandsons, Dr. Tommy Lawhorne Jr., Stephen Garlon Rogers, William C. Mathews Jr., James Walea Rogers, Tom Lawhorne III and Brian C. Mathews, served as pallbearers.
Born March 1, 1908, in Turner County, Mrs. Walea was the daughter of the late George W. Turner and Matilda Story Turner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry Harvey Walea, who passed away in 1995; and one daughter, Gervaise W. Lawhorne. She called Ty Ty her home for over 76 years; and she retired from the Ty Ty Post Office; and she was the oldest member of Ty Ty First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Walea is survived by two daughter, Myrle Mathews of Gray and Henri Etta Rogers of Bellville; five grandchildren, Thomas Lawhorne Jr., Sylvia Mathews Rivers, William Mathews Jr., Steve Rogers and James Rogers; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
