Robert "Bob" Monroe Whittington 73, of Tifton passed away Saturday, August 10, 2002, in the Bear Lake Area of Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. His funeral service was held at 3:00 p.mn. Wednesday, August 14, 2002, at Salem Baptist Church in Tifton with the Rev. Hayward Tomblin officiating. Mr. Whittington was laid to rest at Salem Memorial Gardens in Tifton.
Larry Railey, Donnie Massey, Steve Whittington, Jack Whittington, Billy Whittington and Alan Whittington served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Salem Baptist Church in Tifton.
Born June 8, 1929, in Berrien County, Mr. Whittington was the son of the late William Whittington and Annie Fletcher Whittington. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marylene Marchant Whittington. Before retiring, he was a banker; and he also retired as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Tifton, where he served as a deacon and looked after the church cemetery for many years.
Mr. Whittington is survived by his wife, Myrtle Clark Warren Whittington of Tifton; two sons, Michael Whittington of Tifton and Richard Whittington of Nebraska; two daughters, Gail Blalock of Summerville, South Carolina and Brenda Spampinato of Tifton; two brothers, Lewis Whittington of Florida and Paul Whittington of Omega; one sister, Hazel Massey of Tifton; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
