Henry E. Wells Sr., 86, of Winter St., Tilton, NH died Saturday August 24, 2002 at the NH Veterans Home, Tilton, NH. He was born in Everett, MA on October 4, 1915, a son of the late John and Bertha (Porter) Wells. He was a resident of Tilton for the past 6 years, formerly living in Sandown, NH for over 25 years and Everett, MA for many years. He was a graduate of Everett High School in Everett, MA. He had been employed as a welder mechanic for Eastern Gas & Fuel in Everett, MA and served as the President for the Boilermakers Union. He also retired from Process Engineering in Plaistow, NH in the early 1980’s and had served as the Secretary to the Treasurer for the Union. He was a member of the Merrimack Lodge F & AM, Haverhill, MA, a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Nashua, and a member of the Bektash Temple of Concord. He was a US Navy WWII Combat Veteran serving on the U.S.S. Conway. He was member of the 182nd Infantry in Malden, MA. He was a past Post Commander of the Lt. Joseph Wehner Post #834 VFW, Everett, MA, and was a member of the DAV Chapter #51 in Everett, MA. He served in the Everett City Council, and served as a Trustee at the Glenwood Cemetery in Everett. He served on the Board of Public Welfare in Tewksbury, MA and was Secretary to the Town Finance Committee. He served in the House of Representatives in NH and served on the Labor Committee. In Sandown, NH he served as a Selectman for several years. He was predeceased by his wife Doris (Westerberg) Wells in 1994.
He is survived by two sons, Henry E. Wells Jr., Hollis, NH, Leonard D. Wells, Henderson, NV, two daughters, Carolyn MacFarland, Methuen, MA, Sandra E. Bissette, Sandown, NH, 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Winthrop P. Wells, Tilton, NH, Frank Wells, Chelsea, MA, one sister, Emma Fredericks, Virginia Beach, VA, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday August 28th at 10:00am at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, NH. Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery, Route 121A, Sandown. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday August 27th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 PM.
