Verona Wells Shirah, 78, of Live Oak, Florida, formerly of Tifton, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida. A graveside funeral service was held for Mrs. Shirah at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2002, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where she was laid to rest. The Rev. Fran Wood officiated.
Mrs. Shirah's family members served as pallbearers.
Born November 24, 1923, in Coffee County, Mrs. Shirah was the daughter of the late Joe Wells and Leila Stubbs Wells. She was also preceded in death by her husband; two brothers; and one sister. She was a homemaker; and she was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Tifton.
Mrs. Shirah is survived by two sons, Herbert Leon Shirah of Palatka, Florida and Home Joseph Shirah of Live Oak, Florida; one brother, J. W. Wells of Tifton; two sisters, Edith Folsom of Moultrie and Christine Trevena of Fitzgerald; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
