Obituary

Doris Phillips Sears, 79, of Tifton passed away Saturday, December 7, 2002, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2002, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton's First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Roe and the Rev. Dr. W. Ches Smith, III. Mrs. Sears was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Bobby Payne, Hubert Wood, Jimmy Tyson, John M. Davis, Johnny Simmons and Ben Tyson served as pallbearers.

Born July 15, 1923, in Dothan, Alabama, Mrs. Sears was the daughter of the late Henry Clay Phillips and Alma Seamon Phillips. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Cullis V. "Skin" Sears; one brother; and one sister. She served on the Draft Board and taught English classes in her earlier life. She then served as administrative assistant to four presidents of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College from 1952 to 1982, when she retired. Mrs. Sears also served as ABAC;'s records management officer and archivist. Her greatest love was being an active member of Tifton's First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Sears is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Terry S. and William E. Bowen, Sr. of Brunswick; one sister, Betty Googe of Valdosta; two grandchildren and their spouses, Sonya Lee and Ronnie Rissett and Raymond Lee Driggers, Jr., all of Beaufort, South Carolina; and six great-grandchildren.
