Acushnet – Everett L. Hardy, Jr., 75, of Acushnet died at home July 24, 2006. He was the husband of Marie M. (Martin) Hardy.
Mr. Hardy was born in New Bedford, son of the late Everett L., Sr. and Beatrice (Goodwin) Hardy, and was a lifelong resident of Acushnet. He was a member of the Acushnet-Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a plant manager for the former Scovill Inc. in New Bedford until retiring in 1976 when he became the owner/operator of the River’s End Café in Acushnet where he made many friends during his 20 years of ownership. Dedicated to the town of Acushnet, he was a three-term Selectman, Finance and Golf Course Committee member and founding member of the Community Center. He was chosen man of the year while serving as Selectman. A Mason, Everett was a three time Past Master of the Star in the East Lodge A.F. & A.M. as well as a member of the Shriners. Within the town, he was also a member of the Council on Aging, Jolly Seniors and many other community organizations. Well know to all as “Pops”, he was a beloved family man and friend to many. As captain of the “Die Hard” we all will remember his fishing trips. Take a left!
In addition to his widow, he is survived by 4 sons: Everett L. Hardy III and his wife Lucille of Acushnet, Paul M. Hardy and his wife Ellie of Boscawen, NH, David W. Hardy and his wife Wanita of Claremont, NH and James L. Hardy and his wife Sandi of New Bedford; 3 brothers: Robert Hardy of Fairhaven, Wayne Hardy of Ekeren, Belgium and Donald Hardy of Tampa, FL; 2 sisters: Ann Gustafson of Colorado Springs, CO and Constance Rock of Monponsett, MA; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.

A memorial service on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 10:30 A.M. at the Acushnet-Wesley United Methodist Church, 67 Main Street, Acushnet.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Acushnet Community Center, 232 Middle Road, Acushnet, MA 02743.
Interment will be private.
