Carl Vernor Palmer, 92, of Tifton, died Monday, July 24, 2006, at Tift Health Care. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Tifton. Lay Pastor Reggie Chung will officiate with burial to be held at a later date in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Adam Palmer, James Palmer, Blake Palmer, Cody Palmer, Josh Hendrix and Brandon Phillips. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 26, 2006, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Palmer was born on July 13, 1914 in Hudson, Wisconsin and was the son of John E. Palmer and Alma O. Johnson Palmer, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jane Smith Palmer, who died in 2002; five brothers, Roy Palmer, Loren Palmer, Dave Palmer, Nate Palmer and Kenny Palmer; and one sister, Elenore Gillette. He was a retired salesman with James Barcley Distillers in Chicago, Illinois and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tifton. He was a Shriner; a member of the Medineh Masonic Lodge in Chicago, Illinois; a member of the Springhill Senior Golf Club; a member of the Georgia/Florida Senior Golf Association; and had lived in Tifton since 1999.
Mr. Palmer is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Kathy Palmer of Wayne, Pennsylvania, Jeff and Rhonda Palmer of Dahlonega and Rick and Gaye Palmer of Douglasville; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Herb Hendrix of Tifton; ten grandchildren, Kelly Bowen, Katie Bennett, Josh Hendrix, Brandon Goins, Melissa Palmer, Adam Palmer, Jennifer Palmer, James Palmer, Blake Palmer and Cody Palmer; and seven great grandchildren.
