Dorothy Claire Chastain Smith, 73, of Tifton passed away Monday, June 17, 2002, at her residence. A graveside funeral service was held for Mrs. Smith at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2002, at Lone Hill Methodist Church Cemetery in Coffee County, where she was laid to rest. The Rev. Willie Beasley officiated. A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2002, in the Sanctuary of Tifton's First United Methodist Church.
Born November 10, 1928, in Thomasville, Mrs. Smith was the youngest daughter of the late James Stanton Chastain and Ruth Connally Chastain. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Sidney Smith. She was a homemaker; and she was a member of Tifton's First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Circle Nine of First United Methodist Church Women. She was also a member of the Azalea Garden Club and was active in several bridge groups.
Mrs. Smith is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John Stanton and Brenda Smith of Windermere, Florida; one daughter and son-in-law, Laura and William Garrett Dyas, Sr. of Auburn, Alabama; one sister, Eleanor Griffies of Marietta; and six grandchildren, Harrison Ross Smith, William Stanton Smith, Sara Catherine Smith, Allison Claire Smith, Constance Lee Dyas and William Garrett Dyas, Jr.
