Ben Leroy Salter, 89, of Tifton passed away Sunday, January 27, 2002, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2002, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. John S. Gibbs, Sr. officiating. Mr. Salter was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Chris Giddens, Eddie Graham, Gary burgess, Jimmy Nichols, Eddie Lilly and Brian King served as pallbearers.
Born December 28, 1912, in Bibb County, Mr. Salter was the son of the late Andrew Salter and Martha Turner Salter. He was also preceded in death by his wife Ida Bell Easters Salter; one daughter, Barbara Walker; and two grandchildren. Before retiring, he was a spinner at Tifton Cotton Mills; and he was of the Baptist faith. He was also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
Mr. Salter is survived by his son-in-law, Ralph Walker of Tifton; four grandchildren, Brenda Lilly, Linda Newbern, Timothy Walker and Debbie Griffin, all of Tifton; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
