Mavis Simpson Purvis, 65, of Tifton passed away Sunday, May 19, 2002, at her residence. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at New River Free Holiness Church in Berrien County with the Rev. A. D. Connell officiating. Mrs. Purvis was laid to rest at New River Free Holiness Church Cemetery in Berrien County.
Jeff Dove, Charlie Horton, Jamie Purvis, Richie Purvis, Timmy Hamilton and David Simpson served as pallbearers.
Born October 9, 1936, in Tift County, Mrs. Purvis was the daughter of the late Leonard Curtis Simpson and Leona Goddard Simpson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Purvis, Sr., who passed away in 1988. She was a homemaker; and she was a member of New River Free Holiness Church in Berrien County.
Mrs. Purvis is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James Anderson Jr. and Lynn Purvis of Tifton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Ira Whittle and Gail and Edward Horton, all of Tifton; four brothers, L. C. Simpson, Joe Simpson, Thomas Simpson and Randall Simpson, all of Tifton; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
