Alexander "Gordon" Perry, Jr., 76, of Tifton passed away Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Saint Luke Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. His funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Tifton's First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. David Uhl officiating. Mr. Perry was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Frank Koran, George Lindstedt, Dr. Bill Bridges, Larry Brown, Denton Coleman and Carl Williams served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Carl Pittman Jr., Buddy Kulbersh, Orville Ferrell, Frank Corry, Norman Glaze, Frank Cook, Hugh Chandler and Billy Smith.
Born March 19, 1925, in Sanford, North Carolina, Mr. Perry was the son of the late Alexander Gordon Perry, Sr. and Margaret Jones Perry. He graduated from Sanford High School in Sanford, North Carolina; and received his B.S. in Textiles from North Carolina State Unviersity. Before retiring, he was a supervisor at J. P. Stevens/Forstmann in Tifton; and he was a member of Tifton's First Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and former deacon. He was a veteran of the United States navy and service in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of Springhill Country Club and the Georgia Senior Golf Association; a former member of the Dublin Board of Realtors and the Tiftarea Board of Realtors.
Mr. Perry is survived by his wife, Catherine Shaw Perry of Tifton; two daughters and one son-in-law, Margaret Ann Perry and Catherine and Les Sutton, all of Jacksonville, Florida; and one grandson, Kyle Gordon Sutton of Jacksonville, Florida.
