TEWKSBURY - Kathleen Mary “Kay” (Donovan) Holmes, 79, of Tewksbury, died
surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at the Wingate at Lowell,
MA.
Mrs. Holmes was born May 21, 1927, in Boston, MA, daughter of the late John and
Caroline (Schwehr) Donovan. She grew up in Somerville, MA, and resided there
until 1962. She moved to Tewksbury where she lived for the past 44 years.
She was the widow of John R. Holmes, who died in March, 1991. They were
married for 39 years.
Mrs. Holmes was employed by Tewksbury Auto Parts for many years and
retired in 1994. She was also employed by Gale’s Greenhouse and the former
Carter’s Greenhouse in Tewksbury. In her early years she worked at the J.P.
Manning Co. in Boston.
She attended The Little Flower parochial grammar school in Somerville, MA
and was a member of the National Honor Society at Somerville High School where
she graduated in 1945.
Mrs. Holmes enjoyed crocheting, oil painting and music. She loved to go
bargain shopping and was an active member of the Tewksbury Seniors, and the
Tewksbury Golden Age Club.
She was a communicant of St. William’s Parish in Tewksbury.
Mrs. Holmes was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Kristine and her husband
Louis Beaudette of Hudson, NH, Janet and her husband Dennis Thomas of Pelham,
NH, and Carol and her husband David Wylie of Middleboro, MA.; eight
grandchildren, Leigh Beaudette Cameron and her husband Daniel of Waltham,
MA, Michael Beaudette of Dudley, MA Marc and John Beaudette of Allston, MA,
Lynne Thomas of Pelham, NH , Brian Thomas of Dover, NH, and Rachael and
Jonathan Wylie of Middleboro, MA.; three sisters, Grace Bennett of Cape Cod,
MA, Barbara Bernardi of Tewksbury, MA and Mary Kane of Tewksbury, MA; one
brother-in-law, Leo Bernardi of Tewksbury, MA, one sister-in-law, Joan (Holmes)
Pensante of Brentwood, NY, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her mother-in-law and
father-in-law, Lillian (Andersen) (Holmes) Ronning and Gerhardt Ronning of New
York, her sister, Caroline Donovan of Dorchester, MA, four brothers-in-law,
Robert Holmes of New York, Timothy Donovan of Dorchester, MA, Paul Bennett
of Cape Cod, MA and John Kane of Tewksbury, MA.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, July 27, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Burial was in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorial donations be made in Kay’s name to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen
