Robert Jesse Land, 84, of Tifton passed away Monday, August 5, 2002, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2002, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Elder Craig Deloach officiating. Mr. Land was laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens.
Elon Haney, Shawn Stoball, Donald Tyson, Freddie Walker, Deryck Perkins and Lonnie Tyler served as pallbearers.
Born January 2, 1918, in Wilcox County, Mr. Land was the son of the late Jesse Land and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Gibbs Land. He was also preceded in death by one brother. Before retiring, he worked in the repair and paint department at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany; and he was a member of Tifton's Primitive Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Ocilla Country Club; and he was a veteran of the United States Army. He had lived in Tifton for 60 years.
Mr. Land is survived by his wife, Laverne Whitfield Land of Tifton; and one sister, Sadie Revels of Mystic.
