Obituary

Magdalene "Madge" Hammond Ireland Lawson, 79, of Tifton passed away Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Ashburn at the home of her caregivers, Helen and Darrell Bosely. A memorial service was held for Mrs. Lawson at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton's First Baptist Church.

Born February 6, 1923, in Mystic, Mrs. Lawrence was the daughter of the late Robert F. Hammond, Sr. and Mollie Smith Hammond. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, C. A. Ireland; her second husband, John Lawson; and one grandson, Shaun Ireland. Before retiring, she was a financial secretary for Forest High School in Ocala, Florida; and she was a member of Tifton's First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Serenity Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Lawson is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, David and Pat Ireland of Port Angeles, Washington, Philip and Kris Ireland of Saint Augustine, Florida; and Don Ireland of Tifton; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Inez Foy of Macon and Leta Faye Roberts of Dalton; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Annette Hammond of Tifton; five nieces; and two nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Tifton's First Baptist Church, 404 Love Avenue, Tifton, GA 31794 or the charity of the donor's choice.
